Well, we made it back safe and sound this morning. A 20 hour transit got us back from Cordoba, Argentina via Santiago, Chile and DFW just fine. The last few days of the trip continued to be a blessing both for us as a team to participate in as well as the people God brought across our paths. Another great day or so here in Argentina! Last night we had a simultaneous youth conference and conclusion to the marriage conference. Jacqui came and shared her testimony and gospel invitation to the youth, just in time to be ferried back to the marriage conference to lead a session for the wives. I gave 2 talks to the youth on "what is truth¿" and "power truths that change everything" before running over to the marriage conference to speak in the closing session to husbands. A great evening of ministry! Dozens of couples crying and reconciling after the event. We closed with an invitation to renew commitments and seek forgiveness among families, and it was to the glory of God to see how many broken situations were demonstrating new grace! All - everyone - Wow, so the day is staring us in the face - tomorrow we board a flight to Dallas, then Santiago, Chile, a final hop over the Andes Mountains to Cordoba, Argentina and then a 2 hour van ride to Rafaela. We'll spend about 24 hours in transit before finally arriving at our initial ministry location, and then all of the adventure really begins! Last night was another great meeting for the Argentina Mission Team! A lot of exciting movements afoot was we continue to refine ideas on content and emphasis for various speaking engagements. Particularly, our hearts were heavy for how to best show grace and care to the native church planters at the leadership retreat we're putting on for 2 days. The trip itinerary keeps morphing as God reveals more and more of what He wants to do with our team in Argentina. The latest twists include Mike speaking at 2 different youth conferences to hundreds of young people, including one event for 350 people with a 4 hour teaching block. That's a long time to speak cross-culturally from a platform! Jacqui and I are leading both of our life groups (The Gathering & Alchemy) at Grace Point through the Love & Respect materials. It's just started but already going great as we all gain increased clarity on seeing how God made us different ("Male and female He made them") and also new insights into the unique needs we each have. How thrilling to gain fresh appreciation for the relevance of God's Word to our daily lives, down to the details of how men and women interact! Also exciting to watch how much it all ties back to your life in Christ, your condition of discipleship, your willingness to follow in His abundant life fully. A team of folks from Grace Point recently went to Kenya where they worked with local pastors. One of the charges and challenges put to them was were they going to ultimately live their life in surrender to culturally okay patterns of living or to a transformed way of Christ? In the culture versus Christ battle - who would win? Culture says it's okay to treat your spouse as inferior, yet Christ calls for us to view our spouse as co-heirs in the Kingdom and to treat them with the love or respect due to Christ. Who wins? |
